Where are our roots?
At the time when the Gesellschaft für Organisation und Bürotechnik Hannemann & Röder OHG was established in the Oppum district of Krefeld on 8 April 1965, digitalisation was still in its infancy. In spite of this, the founders Helmut Hannemann and Werner Röder laid the foundations for our unique and unstoppable journey.
The company started life as a Siemens Nixdorf dealership, initially concentrating on producing and distributing point-of-sale systems. Right from the start, GOB has employed a talented and highly skilled team, both on the sales side and also when it comes to programming.
Although we have moved from Krefeld to Ratingen and back – our impeccable DNA has remained exactly the same during the office moves, the changes to company management and the new name of GOB Software & Systeme GmbH & Co. KG.

G-O-B: This is what it is made of
The initials G-O-B are also an excellent reflection of the way we have developed over the years. They have stayed the same, even though we have continued to grow. Since the company name changed to “GOB Software & Systeme GmbH & Co. KG” in 1991, the initials stand for Gesellschaft für Organisation und Beratung in German, which translates as “company for organisation and consultancy” in English.
Not only do we make technology so that you can use it but, as an established service provider, we can offer you outstanding process consultancy and expertise.

Making technologies usable
Top technology – with unitop
Alone the name of our business solution speaks volumes. The “unitop” designation originated in the late 1980s when GOB was still a Siemens-Nixdorf dealership and the company launched its own solution as a result of a further development of Comet Top with Unix: UNIX COMET TOP. This last designation is still active today in the form of our unitop trademark.
The designation has remained a steady presence as new technological concepts have appeared over the years. The unitop product created in the late 1980s is based on Informix and ROSI-SQL rather than UNIX and COMET TOP.
A further fundamental change of direction occurred in 1997 and this was one that would prove to be a key influence on unitop's journey right until the present day. The focus shifted to the ERP landscape, including the IT infrastructure, with the use of the popular Danish Navision technology.
When Microsoft took over Navision in 2002, it paved the way for the next milestone in our technological development. From Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, to the cloud-based Dynamics 365 Business Central – our end-to-end unitop solution now integrates the latest cloud services and AI applications into the unitop ecosystem, thereby creating the best possible conditions to make your digital transformation a huge success.

Navision became Microsoft and Microsoft Gold Partner became Microsoft Solutions Partner – here, too, we have developed over the years and our technological expertise has always grown at the same time. As a recognised Microsoft solutions partner, GOB offers the technological expertise and consultancy that you need for your safe and stable digital transformation. At the same time, we are continually developing our own skills: In May 2024 our Microsoft-Solutions-partnerships were again confirmed for business applications and modern working.
For the sake of our environment
We are sustainable!
Sustainability is very important to us. This is why we designed our new building to be sustainable right from the start.
We have been operating a photovoltaic system on the roof since September 2021: We don’t just generate our own electricity for the GOB building and our EV charging points in the car park: we also feed the excess electricity into Krefeld’s electricity grid. And this is how we continue to develop sustainably: We use a ventilation system based on geothermal technology to ventilate, cool and heat our GOB building, which was completed in 2017. This is installed on the roof and makes an active contribution to environmental protection as it is CO2 neutral.
Our GOB bees are busy working on our roof to produce valuable honey.
Last but not least: GOB’s fleet of company vehicles is also made up of electric cars and we are gradually installing more and more of our own EV charging points. Where we still have vehicles with internal combustion engines, we use fuel cards where a CO2 offsetting scheme is applied automatically for each litre when filling the vehicle with fuel.
Since 2023, we have been the proud holders of the DIQP (German Institute for Quality Standards and Testing) sustainability seal.
