Product configurator add-on

Manage a wide range of products – directly in unitop

Are you running a commercial or industrial operation and working with a wide variety of products? If so, the product configurator add-on is the right solution for you! Our add-on was designed to be used in conjunction with unitop Trade and unitop Industry. Its many useful functions mean you can configure and manage your product variants in a structured and regulated way directly within your ERP system.

Benefits

The benefits of the product configurator add-on for you

This add-on complements our unitop solutions for commercial and industrial companies by providing a fully integrated configuration process. With the add-on, you can reliably configure individual products directly from the sales document – in a way that is rules-based and seamless right through to production. With the product configurator add-on, free-standing solutions, dual data entry and discontinuities are a thing of the past. Here are all of the benefits at a glance:

Seamlessly integrated within unitop

The product configurator is fully integrated within your unitop solution. Item lists, work plans, texts and prices are automatically generated during order entry.

Avoid errors and reduce workload

Combinations are automatically verified using pre-set rules and forbidden options are greyed out. This minimises queries and avoids time-consuming correction loops.

Display variants quickly and flexibly

Whether standard variants or one-off, customised products are involved, all parameters, options and characteristics can be selected by clicking on them and sent to the next stage of the process.

Processes carefully thought out from start to finish

From quotation to calculation, production and documentation: product configuration forms part of your ongoing processes.

Individually expandable

The configuration logic can be independently modified and additional functions included if needed. This means that you can always be flexible – including with new products or in response to growing demands.

Range of functions

How the add-on displays your variant logic from a technical perspective

Whether a simple parameter-based logic or a multi-stage variant logic is involved, the product configurator displays the entire configuration logic directly within your unitop interface – including a logic editor, template management and automated document output.

You define your product templates centrally and can re-use them if needed. You can use multiple versions of parameters to continue developing variants or can test out configurations immediately while production is under way. To obtain a more effective overview, groups of parameters can be created that enable complex products to be structured in a logical way.

With the integrated logic editor, you can put together complex bodies of rules governing permitted combinations, exclusions and calculations yourself. The decision logic can be combined with calculations, for example, to determine the suitable drive type according to the size of the product. Logics such as these can be stored directly in item lists, work plans and item data.

Modules can also be configured individually – including to enable the use of sub-items with a product template of their own. This enables you to display complex product structures dynamically and expand them in a flexible way.

To perform particularly complex calculations, you can incorporate external routines. Input and output parameters can be precisely defined, so that individual expansions can also be integrated smoothly by means of programmed functions.

Item texts can be generated automatically based on set parameters and directly incorporated into sales documents. This allows the features of variants to be displayed transparently and correctly on your quotations or invoices, without any manual alterations or editing being required.

Versions of parameters and product templates can be exported in no time and copied across into new customers or other systems. This not only makes initial commissioning smoother, but also the roll-out into additional areas of the company.

Practical examples

Our product configurator add-on in use

Whether it is used in production or in technical trade, our add-on comes into its own wherever a wide range of variants, precision and efficiency are required. The add-on is suitable in use scenarios including:

  • Serial production involving multiple variants: The product configurator rapidly configures modular products (such as mechanical engineering products or furniture construction) without errors.
  • Project-specific contract manufacturing: Complex requirements can be displayed in accordance with preset rules and reliably transferred to production.
  • Technical trade: Individual components are put together in specific combinations and set up in the system in the form of clearly defined, configuration-specific item numbers.

The product configurator add-on is successful and has already been in use at some of our customers’ premises for a number of years now. We will now briefly sketch how the solution supports the processes at Propain Bicycles.

Propain Bicycles – Custom Bikes that are one of a kind

Propain also relies on unitop and the product configurator add-on:

Customers put together their bike online, including the gear system, spring travel or frame colour. The configuration selected is then automatically transferred to the ERP – consistently, error-free and in a fully digital way.
